Attorney Lisa Bell Coaches Mock Trial Team

Attorney Lisa Bell is helping coach the Manatee High School Mock Trial Team to victory. Seven students, a sponsor and three Bradenton attorneys make up this dynamic team. A mock trial team works on fictional legal cases and each member of the team plays their part in preparing for a "mock" trial. The Manatee High team is currently working on a fictional case which involves a traffic stop, and subsequent arrest for trafficking cocaine. Their sponsor is the High School History and Legal Studies Teacher and the students practice at the high school with the attorneys and the sponsor twice a week. This year Manatee High will compete against six other teams from Bradenton, Sarasota and Venice. Manatee County Courthouse will host the competition which begins Saturday March, 12, 2005 and will continue until Tuesday, March 15, 2005 where the two teams remaining will try the case in the final round of competition. The students are judged based on a point system proscribed by the State of Florida Law Related Education Association, Inc. The winner of the circuit-wide competition will advance to the State Competition held in Orlando during the first weekend of April 2005. Ms. Bell enjoys working with the team and their time together has proven to be incredibly rewarding.
