Hamrick, Perrey, Quinlan & Smith, P.A. Firm NewsManatee County Bar Association Awards John V. Quinlan for Lifetime Achievement in Service to the CommunityAt the Annual Meeting of the Association on June 25, 2003, the Manatee County Bar Association recognized two local attorneys for their record of service to the community. In the fifth annual presentation of the awards, JOHN V. QUINLAN received the Lifetime Achievement Award and PAULETTE R. PACE received the Community Service Leader Award. The purpose of the awards is to highlight Bar Association members who provide service to the community through participation in organizations and activities beyond the Bar and mandatory pro bono legal services. Quinlan's numerous volunteer roles in his commitment to youth and in a variety of local charitable organizations earned him the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association. When asked to comment on his most significant achievement, Mr. Quinlan stated, "I have undertaken a commitment for service to Youth in our community by a direct, hands on approach. I believe I've made a positive impact on the lives of many young adults through my long tenure of service with the Manatee County Girls' Club, the Manatee County Nursery School, Junior Achievement and recreational coaching. The involvement in organizations has been coincidental with the advancement of the ages of my children and has allowed me to be actively involved with my children and with their peers". Practicing law in Manatee County since 1981, John is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a degree in Chemistry and received his law degree from Stetson University College of Law. He is a partner in the law firm of Hamrick, Perrey, Quinlan & Smith and practices in the areas of commercial law, corporate law, banking, real estate and probate litigation. Circuit Judge Durand Adams made the presentation of the award. For accepting the challenge of bringing an alternative education program for girls to Manatee County, Paulette Pace earned the 5th Annual Community Service Award. After "agreeing to get involved", she became the first President of the Board of Directors for the Manatee County P.A.C.E. Center for Girls. Seeing and supporting the program while it grew from ten girls in 1989 who met in the Methodist Church building on 26th Street to over fifty at any time today in their very own building, Paulette believes that "this program has helped many young troubled teenage girls turn their lives around to become successful adults". In addition, she has served the Manatee Community Council for Children, the Women's Resource Center and Altrusa International. A solo practitioner, Paulette is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and received her law degree from Nova Southeastern Law School. She practices Family Law. Laurel Lynch, Executive Director of Hope Family Services made the Community Service Award presentation on behalf of the panel of judges. Nominations for the awards were submitted by fellow members of the Manatee County Bar Association. To ensure the integrity of the judging, a panel of five was assembled, only one of whom had any affiliation with the Bar. In addition to Judge Durand Adams and Laurel Lynch, the judges were Larry Bustle, Mayor of the City of Palmetto; Becky Canesse, Executive Director of the Manatee County Girls' Club and Rabbi Barbara Aiello from Temple Beth El in Bradenton. |
